Anthem Ventura is part a family of churches helping people find their way back to God. The Anthem family of churches is united around shared mission, vision, values, and submission to the Lordship of King Jesus. In our cities, we are working to obey Jesus in helping people find their way back to God.
Membership With Anthem
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
– 1 Corinthians 12:27
Members of Anthem are a part of the formal leadership structure at Anthem. We believe the family is a family, and we all have roles and parts to play.
Biblical Membership is a formal relationship between a local church and a Christian, where the local church takes specific responsibility for the Christian, and the Christian takes specific responsibility for their local church.
When we look at the churches of the New Testament, we see a very clear understanding of who the church was. Paul writes to the Corinthians about “outsiders” who are a part of their gatherings (1 Cor 14:24). The membership of the local church was an understood reality in the early church. Paul describes the churches in Ephesus and Rome as “members one of another” (Rom 12:5, Eph 4:25).
Joining a church is much more than joining a social club or gathering. Membership at Anthem reflects the biblical command to do life with one another in a way that demonstrates Jesus to this world.
In joining with the other members at Anthem Church, you are committing yourself to taking responsibility for the other members, using your time, abilities, money and spiritual gifts to encourage, edify and equip them for works of service. You are also submitting yourself to the other members, including the elders, being accountable to them in your own pursuit of Jesus and receiving encouragement, edification and equipping from them.
Anthem Church members are required to be professing Christians who believe and have faith in Jesus as God and Savior, must walk in submission to Anthem's philiosphy of ministry, and must be in full agreement with our basic beliefs found here →
As Christians, we are members of God’s household (Eph. 2:19) called to function, participate, and minister in a particular place within the body of Christ. A healthy body requires that each member do its part well. A healthy church requires the same: members who are sacrificially committed and well-equipped to do the works of service that God has prepared in advance for us to do (Eph. 2:10; 4:12).
Being a member of Anthem Church is really about being part of a family. All members are disciples of Jesus, unified by their identity in Christ. This unity is expressed in the way they collaborate in loving God, loving fellow Christians, and loving non-Christians. Members who enter into a covenant with their local church are called to a higher degree of responsibility and service. At the same time, the elders and deacons are covenanted to assist members first and foremost, to love and lead, provide counsel and aid, and pray for, teach, and guide them.
As we are growing in our apprenticship to Jesus - being with Jesus, becoming more like Him, and doing what He did - together, in our city, we are growing together in six areas that make Anthem members distinct from guests at Anthem:
#1 - We regularly attend Sunday gatherings
#2 - We do life together in Community Groups
#3 - We serve and His people on teams
#4 - We give regularly, sacrificially, and generously of our finances as part of our worship to Jesus
#5 - We pray regularly for our church: our people, our leaders, and our mission
#6 - We share what God is doing and invite people to experience with God is doing at Anthem
