Anthem Ventura is part a family of churches helping people find their way back to God. The Anthem family of churches is united around shared mission, vision, values, and submission to the Lordship of King Jesus. In our cities, we are working to obey Jesus in helping people find their way back to God.
Anthem Ventura is a little over 4 years old, and each year feels better than the last. God has brought new life, new growth, and a fresh wind. 2019 was another year of pursuing our apprenticeship to Jesus together, and we have loved watching more and more people become more and more like Him.
We continue to see the Holy Spirit move in powerful ways in our Sunday Gatherings and in our Community Groups, and have seen tremendous growth in Alpha, both in numbers and in strength.
Last year, we laid out a multi-year vision of 100/10/1. 100 baptisms, 10 community groups, and 1 new church plant. This is an important metric for us, because it dictates what we’re measuring and what we’re celebrating. Rather than celebrating money in the banks, or butts in seats, we are choosing to celebrate and treasure the moves of God that produce new life, proclaimed through baptism, those taking steps in their spiritual growth and community, through Community Groups, and our increasing capacity to send, in planting a church.
That vision remains the same. And this year, we believe God is leading toward that vision by becoming resilient disciples, who are faithful in the face of cultural coercion, and who live a vibrant life in the Spirit. As we unpack the many ways that will be happening, we hope you prayerfully consider “jumping on the ship” to borrow language from Acts 20 & 21, and be a part of what God is doing here at Anthem.
As we move forward as a church into this new year, we are so grateful for the love of the Father, Son and Spirit, and the partnership in the mission of God with each of you as we live out the gospel together.
We can’t wait to see what God does in 2020.
Bert & Sherry Alcorn and the Anthem Elder Team
Anthem Church Exists to enjoy and make much of Jesus, helping people become more like him, as we live out the mission of God together.
Preaching the gospel
We believe the whole Bible points to Jesus and his work reconciling people back to God, so we grow in applying the gospel to every area of life, even when it’s easier to be the center of our own life.
Last year, we primarly worked through the letter of 1 Corinthians, with a few mini-series in between.

Becoming a Family
This past year saw a major focus on integrating new people into the life of our church, and helping new and newish people to our church take their next steps in becoming a part of the Anthem family.
Are you in a community group?
We believe God is a relational God, so, we live out discipleship with a community of believers, even when culture tells us we can do life on our own.
Community Groups meet during the week around Ventura to live out the way of Jesus together. A Community Group is a place you can be known and loved because the Gospel is real. Not only can you be known and loved by God, but you can be known and loved by your brothers and sisters in Jesus. These communities are always open and welcome to newcomers.
Are you on a serve team?
Loving and helping one another is what makes our community what it is. We believe that the church is the family of God, and like a family, we all pitch in.
Everyone is gifted and responsible for different aspects of seeing the church thrive. We would love for everyone who calls Anthem their home to serve because we are a people who have been truly served by Jesus through His life, death, and resurrection.
Do you financially contribute to Anthem Ventura?
We believe God is a generous God, so, we act and give generously, even when it stretches us.
Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live. As Christians, we give our time, talent, and money joyfully in response to Jesus’ generosity and to help more people meet Jesus.
34 New Members
Joining a church is much more than joining a social club or gathering. Membership at Anthem reflects the biblical command to do life with one another in a way that demonstrates Jesus to this world.
This past year, we welcomed many new members to the Anthem family. If you are intersted in becoming a member, calling Anthem home, learn more by clicking the button, and look out for our next membership course.
Caring for our community
Laundry Love is a regular opportunity to come alongside people who are struggling financially by assisting them with their laundry. We partner with Midtown Coin Laundry in cleaning clothes and linens of low-income or no-income families and individuals. We see the laundromat as a place where strangers become friends, kids are known by name, hope is being hustled, and the worth of every human being is acknowledged and celebrated.
Raising Up leaders
2019 was spent in a development season for what would become our Anthem Ventura Elder Team.
When we launched as a church, Kevin & Vanessa Marsden, on loan from the Anthem Thousand Oaks Elder team, graciously gave us 2 years to support and strengthen Bert & Sherry Alcorn as church planters. Since day 1, we've known a vital step in maturity as a church would be raising up a team from amoung the body. Paul called this "putting things into order" (Titus 1v5).
After completeing the development process, and a season of examiniation and affirmation from the body, we installed our first team of home-grown elders from our church body, and welcomed Matt & Alyssa Pedrick and Josh & Leah Snowden to the team with Bert & Sherry Alcorn to lead and serve this church.
Reaching the city
Alpha at Anthem continues to grow, with each round becoming slightly larger than the round before. Each Alpha season has begun with a buzz in the air the first few nights and has ended with community, deep connections, and transformed hearts. It’s hard to quantify the change of hearts that occurs at Alpha, but as a whole, we've seen God work in amazing ways to draw people back to himself.
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to explore life and the Christian faith. To ask questions, and share their point of view in an open, friendly environment. Because we as a church don’t want to simply be a church for the churched, but a church for the city. For the lost. For those searching.
Jesus is the most generous person who ever lived. He gave his life so that we might live.
Giving and Generosity
Giving cheerfully and sacrificially is a part of worship at Anthem. We give generously because God has first been generous to us. We dream of becoming a church marked by radical generosity.
Partner with God in what he's doing through Anthem Ventura. Your prayers, tithes, and offerings help fulfill our mission of helping people find their way back to God! Christ calls his followers to work and be on mission until He returns – and you are doing just that!

Who we are
Each year, we conduct a church-wide survey to better undetand the demographics and patterns in our church. Below are some basic demographic info for our church.
Global Church Planting
Genesis Collective is global church planting and gifts sharing. Ours is a story of several dear friends from across the globe, who believe that the eternal & intimate God has joined us together in love and mandated us with the adventure of: planting Jesus proclaiming, Kingdom advancing communities, in all the nations of the world.
Genesis Collective is a community of churches, journeying together to see the gospel reach the world.
This year there are four opportunities to “go”
March 28–April 4
8 Days of Apostolic Ministry throughout Sri Lanka. We will hop on dirt bikes leaving from Colombo and circumnavigating the country. Because many of the churches we work with are in unreachable area by car, dirt bikes are our best option for reaching communities who are otherwise very difficult to access.
Motorcycle experience and knowledge is required to embark on the journey, as well as a motorcycle license.
Be prepared to preach the gospel, experience the adventure of a lifetime, eat some amazing food, and see many lives changed by Jesus.
May 22–June 1
Oct 23–Nov 2
The country of Greece is a gateway for many European refugees fleeing conflict in their home countries. Thousands of people have been pouring into the country since 2015, and it has exploded into a crisis.
We have a friend and pastor, Stavros Ignatiou, who runs a ministry in Athens that does relief work for refugees.
They engage with their local community by running a donation warehouse, preparing and serving meals, and running the childcare room at their local Asylum Center, where individuals go to apply for refugee status.
The members of this small church are at work constantly with these ministries, and without the teams that come from all over Europe and occasionally the US, they would not have the capacity to continue. Teams come in to provide relief for this church body.
June 30–July 5
The International Young Leaders Summit is a gathering of the key and strategic young leaders in our broader genesis community.
Crafted by remarkable milllenials, set against the beauteous stage of Portugal, these few days are designed to mobilize this generation to find each other in rich global friendships, to encounter Jesus together at a time of great spiritual urgency and to avail themselves to new gospel adventures.
After the summit, we will split into teams to encourage and strengthen church plants in Porto and Lisbon.
Mid-November (Dates TBD)
Join us for a time of training, encouraging, and strengthening pastors, planters, and leaders from around Africa, the Middle East, India, and Sri Lanka.
